Men's Health Week
Life Changing Choices is a non-contact gym, where there is no judgment, no experience needed and people can just turn up and have fun!
What are the biggest barriers preventing men from speaking out about their health, and how can we break these down?
"Trust is a very big thing, as a lot of men don’t want to share their problems with other people and they don’t want to burden other people with their worries. Low self-esteem is also a big factor. Not all men have the confidence, or courage to open up to other people.
Men don't really open up a lot because everybody on the earth thinks that men are strong and they think, “oh, he’s alright, he hasn’t got any worries”, but that’s not the case. We need to break down that misconception for a start."
How do you balance your physical health with your mental wellbeing?
"My physical and my mental health I tend to combine together. Without my mental health, then I wouldn’t have my physical health either. I stay away from alcohol, and I like to walk and train. I also try to help other people with their mental health and that plays a big part in my own well-being."
If you suspect a friend is struggling, how do you feel it is best to help them?
"I never ask too many questions; I just tend to listen to them. If they’re turning up at the gym, then I know they’re doing okay. I just let them know that if they want to talk then they can and if they do talk to me then I listen, and I don’t butt-in."
